About Author- Monica E. Young

My need to help senior citizens led me to invent my senior move manager business. For 11 years, I was pleased to move over 1000 seniors into new homes at independent and assisted living communities. I also served as a Board Member – NASMM (National Association of Senior Move Managers) from 2013-2015. My business was recognized in 2016 as a Joe Henjum Senior Accolades Nominee. In 2017, I sold my business, in the hopes that my vision of one-day, turn-key moves would survive. Giving back is a part of who I am. My book gives back the wisdom learned over that career.

FAQs

Still have a question? Feel free to ask me!

WHERE DO I START?

Open communication lines between family members about life decisions. Be honest with yourself about what sparked your concerns. Share this nagging thought with brothers, sisters, and good friends. Rely on your emotional character to bring up such an important question at the right time.

Follow my suggestions to start with a family team of 5. Meet to share and define the questions about health and welfare you want to ask your loved one.

Schedule an in-person meeting at your senior’s current home to get your questions answered. Set limits – no children; minimum of an hour.

WHEN DO I START?

While I recommend 75 years of age as a good starting point, the seniors I moved were, on average, 85 years old. Half of the time the senior initiated the contact; half the time a family member initiated contact.
If you’re asking the question, you’re ready to start.

DO YOU DO CONSULTING?

Phone call is free for the first 15-minutes.

I NEED YOUR ADVICE:
MY MOM IS 94 AND REFUSES TO TALK ABOUT FUTURE PLANS

Meet this level of resistance by using old photos as a starting point. Ask about recording family stories. Pictures of the home where they grew up spark all kinds of memories for seniors.

I NEED YOUR ADVICE:
MY MOM IS 94 AND INSISTS THAT SHE WILL DIE IN HER HOUSE

When dying in the home is offered, ask what that looks like. Do you want a church service or do you mean to have a wake right here?

WHAT IS PROBATE?

Please ask your estate attorney this question. If you don’t have an estate attorney, use this question as your interview question. Compare the answers. Which attorney speaks an answer that you can understand?
Also, please choose an attorney in the state where you live. The topic of probate is very different in every state.
Do not rely on internet answers.
